Custom clipping planes in #unitytechnologies.
Allowing individual control, to cut off rendering of objects, with up to three movable clipping planes - even with animation applied.  Or… “Louise, can we cut off the elephant’s butt, and keep the animation?”

Created for the animated totems in the ‘Credo’ video by Visual Artist Deborah Johnson #Candystations, for #SarahKirklandSnider #massfortheendangered.

My work is based on the “Per-Object Clipping Planes Shader in Unity3D 5” tutorial by #toxicFork / Firtina Ozbalikci. This is by far the most elegant solution I found, after testing out many other options. (Lmk if you have other favorites).

The script is applied to any object you want to apply a clipping plane to, and uses a custom shader. I re-wrote both to inherit the world position for each animal, and to take into account the individual animal totem’s rotation around a center totem. The totems were created and imported from #cinema4d. Animals were created in #unity3d.

Made in #unity2018, due to other project assets. Not tested in newer versions yet.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There are other assets that can import Shadertoy, but this one is kept ultra simply, so even the TouchDesigner / shader beginner can use it. No Shadertoy API needed.

The assets also allows you to put the shader on a Raspberry Pi 4, and run a up to a 4k screen from just your pi. Or If you wanna get crazy, you can run LED matrixes as well.

Succumb, 2019. Dance performance. Code based on drawing and fluid dynamics.

Whenever I built a new project I think of it much more as a tool with parameters and stages that I can change over time. Often in response to tracked movements. In Succumb, one dancer draws calm ink patterns, another busier dancer brings in the erratic ink rain that will inevitably destroy the calm patterns of the first dancer. But staying erratic for too long will make you succumb to your own chaos. And eventually leads to a completely black canvas. While staying calm and refinding the patterns that make sense within ourselves - even in a transformed environment in which you feel like you are drowning - makes it possible to resurface. The piece is inspired by the two dancers personal styles of movement.

A collection of magnetic fields sound recordings from my apartment. Mixed binaurally. The true sounds of the electrical devices that keep us connected and sane during COVID. (The cricket like sound is the cell phone). - freezer

This little contraption lets me listen to electromagnetic fields emitted from the electronics around me, directly in my headphones. Now I just need to solder it to a permanent board and I have built myself an electromagnetic microphone. I’ll post sounds later! 🦾
